Fly Tying with Jose Venalonzo & Gary Moleon
Our Saturday tyers series continues with Jose Venalonzo & Gary Moleon.
Jose is a renowned tyer who is a regular at the Fly Tying Symposium and Fly Fishing Shows in Edison, N.J. He ties all patterns, including Catskill varieties, but specializes in terrestrials. His ants, hopper and cricket patterns are considered the best of the best. He was a member of the Regal Vice Pro Staff. Jose has tied at the CFFCM many times over the years and is a member of the Catskill Fly Tyers Guild.
CFFCM Saturday Tyers Series is offered in partnership with the Catskill Fly Tyers Guild.
Gary became interested in fishing and fly tying when he was ten years old. He would crawl up leaning weeping willow trees and flick crawling bugs into Washington Lake ( N.J. ) where the bass and other fish would eat them. He started imitating those same bugs when he tied a yellow jacket using materials from his mother's sewing box on a size 10 Eagle Claw Hook.
He refined his tying skills over the years and gives credit to Bill Hrinco for providing instructions. Bill is a well-known North Jersey tyer who appears at many TU Local and Regional Meetings and is a regular at the Edison Fly Fishing Show each winter. Gary is the treasurer of the Catskill Fly Tyers Guild and now lives in the Catskills where he fishes, hunts and remains very active in off-shore New Jersey fishing.
