Fly Tying with Jim Conrey & Greg Quaglio

Our Saturday tyers series continues with Jim Conrey & Greg Quaglio.

James Conrey started freshwater fishing in his early 20s but it wasn’t until a few years later that he saw a guy fishing with a fly rod that tweaked his interest in fly fishing. Soon thereafter he purchased a used fly rod and spent time in his local library learning as much as he could about this side of our sport.

When he received a gift certificate to a local fly shop he purchased a dozen flies. He started tying his own flies when a friend told him about a fly tying course at a local school.

He says that when he saw a trout raise, but refuse, a fly he tied he was hooked, no pun intended.

Jim retired to Pleasant Mount, PA, a few years ago and fishes his local waters and is a regular on the Delaware River System. He represents the Guild as an instructor at the Friends of the Upper Delaware River “Kids Camp”.

Greg Quaglio lived in Sussex County, N.J., and fished all the rivers and streams in that area. Upon retirement he moved to Rock Lake, PA. He fishes local waters and the not too distant Delaware System along with regular trip to some favorite spots in New Hampshire.

His early fly tying experience was centered on bass flies which he suggests “some even worked”. He started tying trout flies 25 years ago for day trip made to the Ken Lockwood Gorge on the South Branch. He teaches tying at an after-school program at Hancock Community Foundation.

Greg is a regular at CFTG Meetings and also represents the Guild as an instructor at the FUDR “Kids Camp”.

CFFCM Saturday Tyers Series is offered in partnership with the Catskill Fly Tyers Guild.
